The 8th Asia Environmental Forum will be held on Wednesday, October 27th this year. The topic of the forum is ‘Global Net Zero’, where we will be discussing implementing the role of local governments, businesses, and citizens towards carbon neutrality and inclusive policies.
The Asia Environmental Forum is an
international forum launched by The Korea Green Foundation in May 2012 to mark
the 30th anniversary of Korea's environmental movement. It is a place for
debate where the winner of the Goldman Prize, which is known as the Nobel Prize
in the environmental field, other domestic and international environment
experts, Asian companies, government, and civil society come together to
discuss the future of Asia's environment.
According to the 6th Assessment Report
released by IPCC in August, the global temperature is likely to rise up to the
internationally agreed threshold of 1.5℃ by 2040. It is 10 years earlier than
the prediction in The Special Report on the Impacts of Global Warming of
1.5℃(2018). To recognize the gravity of the problem and to seek solutions to
address the climate crises, the forum has prepared a time for experts,
citizens, and related institutions to all come together to draw action plans
for carbon neutrality and urge people to participate in it.
This year especially, the Gyeonggi-do
Province Government and the Korea Green Foundation will be co-hosting the forum
under the name, 'The 1st Global Net Zero Forum’. With the Green New Deal goal
of low-carbon energy conversion, we will invite Kimiko Hirata(the winner of the
Goldman Prize 2021), Chibeze Ezekiel(the winner of the Goldman Prize 2020), and
Min Kim(head of Big-wave) as main speakers. It will be held at the Messe Suwon,
Gyeonggi-do, and also be broadcasted through Youtube. Please join us and share
your opinion.
